Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Overview

What is BDS? Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is the undergraduate degree awarded to students who complete dental school. It is a professional program that trains students to become dentists, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases. BDS is the primary qualification required to practice dentistry in many countries.

Course Duration: Typically, a BDS program lasts 5 years, although this may vary by country or institution. The course involves both theoretical learning and practical experience.

Curriculum: The BDS curriculum includes subjects such as:

  • Basic Medical Sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pathology.

  • Dental Sciences: Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, and Pharmacology.

  • Clinical Training: Proficiency in diagnostics, restorative dentistry, periodontology, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and oral surgery.

  • Practical Experience: Hands-on practice in dental clinics, where students treat patients under supervision.

Eligibility: Eligibility criteria depend on the country and institution, but generally:
